[Weapon] Weapons that could enhance WW3 - Precision Sniper Rifles | VKS

Question

Hey Folks

Time for the final weapon for round 2 of "Weapons that could enhance WW3" (yes even though I just got the Israeli (🇮🇱) Spike post up not too long ago) and Mother Russia is closing this round once again with the VKS/VSSK, a silent sniper rifle with a mean bite behind each shot. After this post I will be taking a brief break from creating weapon suggestion posts, mostly for the break itself, and because I have other things I want to cover while I research weapons for round 3 of "Weapons that could enhance WW3."

If you wish to read other Suggestion posts I have made, click the link below. Otherwise, lets get started with the VKS.

Section 1 - The VKS

Introduction & Demonstration Videos of the VKS.

Extra Information sources.

Created by TsKIB SOO, the VKS or VSSK "Vychlop" (Exhaust), is a silenced Sniper Rifle created at the request of Russian FSB who was seeking a weapon that had both the strengths of the VSS Vintorez (another suppressed Sniper Rifle) and the OSV-95 while trying to mitigate as much of the weaknesses as possible. What would come would be a Sniper Rifle very capable of 1 MOA (Minute of Angle) fire that packed a large caliber round, was rather lightweight, and most importantly was very quiet. In 2002 the VKS would make it's way into the hands of the FSB, enter service with the special forces units of the FSB & other Special Forces units in 2004, and would not actually be revealed to the general public till the 2005 INTERPOLITEX show in Moscow. As of right now, only Russia uses the VKS where the weapon is used to engage enemy equipment, heavily armored personnel, personnel behind cover, and light armored Vehicles.

----

Section 2 - Favored Playstyle & Stat Comparisons

If added to the game, the VKS would be ideal for players that highly value stealth & surgical strikes above all else. No matter if they're setting up an ambush, or carefully advancing on a position, they want a weapon that won't quickly draw attention to their position while they surgically cut down the enemy in their path. However, this should come at the cost of the VKS having limited magazine options, a very slow moving caliber of ammunition, and slower than average reload speed for a small magazine weapon. But, in exchange players would have both Power & Stealth on their side.

Now, lets move on to comparing possible stats of the VKS vs. the Tochnost, G29, and my suggested K14. Like always weapons with (S) in their name are weapons I have suggested that are not actually in the game and the color coding works as shown below.

  • Green - The gun is better compared to this weapon's stats on the list.
  • Yellow - The gun is equal or competitive compared to this weapon's stats on the list.
  • Red - The gun is worse compared to this weapon's stats on the list.

Please note:  I cannot test these stats to confirm balance, so think of these as more of a proposed starting place for testing on the PTE, and I'm comparing the stats of the weapons from a stock design against another stock design without taking customization into consideration. This is primarily to help keep the post small and avoid making a massive amount of variables to take into consideration.

VKS proposed and compared stats.

  • VKS Effective ranges: 60m (120 damage.) Damage decreases at 61m - 100m (100 damage.) Damage decreases at 101m - 180m (65 damage.)
    • Tochnost: 45m (125 damage.) Damage decreases at 46m - 60m (114 damage.) Damage decreases at 61m - 90m (110 damage.) Damage decreases at 91m - 105m (95 damage.) Damage decreases at 106m - 135m (80 damage.)
    • G29: 80m (135 damage.) Damage decreases at 81m - 140m (120 damage.) Damage decreases at 180m (90 damage.)
    • (S) K14: 35m (125 damage.) Damage decreases at 36m - 50m (114 damage.) Damage decreases at 51m - 90m (110 damage.) Damage decreases at 91m - 105m (95 damage.) Damage decreases at 106m - 135m (80 damage.)
  • VKS Weight: 16.30
    • Tochnost: 15.11
    • G29: 20.11
    • (S) K14: 14.60
  • VKS Recoil: 5.5
    • Tochnost: 4.5
    • G29: 10.0
    • (S) K14: 7.0
  • VKS Spread: 0.1
    • Tochnost: 0.1
    • G29: 0.1
    • (S) K14: 0.1
  • VKS Reload time: 4.2 Seconds

    • (S) K14: 50 RPMs
  • VKS Caliber: 12.7x55mm STs-130
    • Tochnost: 7.62x51mm NATO
    • G29: .338 Lapua Magnum
    • (S) K14: 7.62x51mm NATO
  • VKS Muzzle Velocity: 300 m/s
    • Tochnost: 1293 m/s
    • G29: 1033 m/s
    • (S) K14: 925 m/s
  • VKS Bullets to Kill: HDPE: 1 / PTLN: 1 / Cer: 1 / STL: 1
    • Tochnost: HDPE: 1 / PTLN: 1 / Cer: 1 / STL: 2
    • G29: HDPE: 1 / PTLN: 1 / Cer: 1 / STL: 1
    • (S) K14: HDPE: 1 / PTLN: 1 / Cer: 1 / STL: 2

With this out of the way we move on to special features which we have a little, but not a lot given that we're still working with a Bolt-Action Rifle.

----

Section 3 - Special Features

  • Integral Suppressed- While the special suppressor on the VKS can be removed, it's primarily for cleaning, transportation, and storage. In combat engagements however, it's imperative that the suppressor be on the weapon to help mask the shots of the VKS as the weapon is a purpose built, silent sniper rifle. Because of this, the VKS should have no Barrel or Muzzle customization options.
  • Straight-Pull Bolt - One of the key designs of the VKS is it's Straight-Pull Bolt which only requires 2 actions to cycle a new round into the chamber when compared to the 4 actions required of a regular turn-pull bolt. To represent this game there should be two things that happen with the VKS-
    1. The VKS should chamber rounds faster than the Tochnost
    2. The VKS should be able to chamber a new round even while ADSing. But, at the cost of having a brief delay of ability to fire because the Soldier needing to take their hand away from the trigger. Alternatively, the VKS user can only do that when they're Prone.
  • Limited Magazine Options - It seems the VKS only has 5 round magazines.
  • VKS vs Light Armored Vehicles - The VKS should do above average damage to light armored Vehicles because of it's special 12.7x55mm STs-130 caliber ammunition which is a .50 caliber ammunition that is smaller than standard Russian Heavy Machine Gun ammunition while still not being inherently a Anti-Materiel rifle in of itself.

----

Section 4 - Customization

Now this part will be rather quick since I don't plan to go over stats or anything like that. Just a quick mention of what customization options the VKS should and should not have access to in my opinion,

  • Primary Sights
    • All Sights optional
  • Secondary Sights
    • All Sights optional
  • Barrels
    • None
  • Muzzles
    • None
  • Lower
    • All Lowers optional
  • Side
    • All side mounts optional
  • Magazines
    • 5 Round Magazine
  • Ammunition
    • All (Gun) Ammunition Types optional

And like most Sniper Rifles the VKS has no aftermarket parts (can one truly be surprised given that the weapon is more of a specialist weapon?)

With that out of the way, we bring both this post to an end, and round 2 of my Weapons that could enhance WW3 series of suggestion posts as well. I hope everyone likes the idea of seeing the VKS added to the game, even if maybe not exactly in the way I have suggested it. I was going to suggest one of two other weapons for this slot. But, I saw the best of both of those in the VKS along with it's unique characteristics of being a silent sniper rifle, and it was basically just slapping me in the face (metaphorically) saying "Hey! Hey! Look at me!" I wouldn't be surprised if other People have suggested this weapon before me as it's a relatively old weapon by modern standards of being "Old." But man, it's waay too cool of a weapon to ignore. But, that is ultimately up to the Developers if they see this post. But, for now I need a break, some rest, and above all else...till the next suggestion post...

Have a good one folks!

PS: Oh my god the amount of times I had to fix VKS because I typed VSK instead...I don't even want to tell...mostly because I didn't keep track...IT WAS A LOT THOUGH!

And he thanks you for it. Though it seems the VKS might scare folks a bit (Silent Hunter and all that jazz.)

There’s 3 guns I want in this game 1 a revolver of any kind 2 a desert eagle and 3 any kind of weapon meant to use suppressor so this would be awesome I think.  Also does anyone else think this looks like a SA80?

I mostly see the familiarity in the stock of the gun near the ejector port myself. It's one of those odd things with a lot of Bullpup weapons. lol
